It’s increasingly common to pick up a newspaper and read about a parent group protesting a school closing, petitioning for parent choice initiatives, or meeting with legislators to discuss budget cuts and their impact on their children’s education. Fueling that increase, in part, is the growth in parent organizing and engagement as a field within the philanthropic community over the last several years.
On May 16, GCYF held a call with grantmakers currently funding in the parent organizing and engagement space as they discussed the importance of this work, the short- and long-term benefits, challenges and obstacles along the way, and how grantmakers not currently funding in this space can become involved.
