In 2005, GCYF was awarded a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to create a philanthropic learning circle to explore strategies for more effective and inclusionary grantmaking in diverse communities. We believe the implications for this type of grantmaking are particularly significant now at a time when rapidly shifting demographics and increasingly diverse communities are changing the composition and needs of the communities that grantmakers support.
This issue of
Insight and learning toolkit offer a glimpse of the learning journey that took place for a group of GCYF members over an eight-month period, synthesize the collective learning that emerged and relay some of the most important strategies for success that were uncovered.
In an attempt to make the information presented in this publication as accessible as possible for funders, GCYF also developed a companion learning toolkit, which includes power point presentations on the subject, a planning guide, a discussion guide and a resource guide.
Committed to the promotion of equity and inclusion, GCYF will provide follow-up support and learning events for grantmakers interested in this subject matter.
GCYF would like to thank the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for support of this project.
