Policy Intern

Grantmakers for Children, Youth & Families (GCYF) is a membership association of grantmaking institutions. Our mission is to increase the ability of organized philanthropy to improve the well-being of children, youth and families. We serve as a forum to review and analyze grantmaking strategies, exchange information about effective programs, examine public policy developments and maintain ongoing discussions with national leaders.  

GCYF seeks a motivated Policy Intern with an interest in children, youth and family issues, excellent organizational and writing skills, and meticulous attention to detail to work with GCYF policy staff.  The internship will provide a substantive learning experience and an opportunity to contribute to the field. The position is full time for the duration of the summer and may be renewed for the fall as either part-time or full-time.  

Major Responsibilities:
*Conduct research on a wide range of children, youth and family issues          
*Draft fact sheets, issue briefs, and other written documents on a range of topics        
*Manage website updates for policy pages, including identification and posting of relevant news items, Congressional hearings and learning events
*Track legislation
*Assist in the planning and holding of educational webinars and events for GCYF members by creating marketing materials, managing registration and compiling handouts
*Attend briefings and hearings on pertinent issues and draft summaries for circulation to GCYF members  

Other Duties:
*Conduct research to update and refine member and non-member profiles       
*Support planning for annual conference and other meetings
*Assist with administrative duties  

Characteristics Desired in the Intern:
*Organizational Skills: Capacity to effectively and efficiently manage a variety of tasks with little supervision
*Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and PowerPoint
*Writing/Editing Skills: The Intern will assist in the writing and editing of a variety of materials
*Knowledge Base: Basic understanding of the federal policy process and children, youth and family issues  

Compensation:  Competitive wage dependent on education and experience.
